Whats needed
Documentation is in disarray, I do not see how an novice cold possibly build this without help. No instructions for harness or how/where the plastic covers go. No way these covers will work in the area of the large power wires without more information.

Went together with no problems at all. Highly recommend to keep car on the road. Comparable SOC levels and MPG. Nick was right there with suggestions along the way. A+++

NPB Kit Gen2, -04-09
Ordered the pack a few weeks ago. Shipped that Friday, arrived following Wednesday; on time and as expected. Everything was nicely packaged, instructions are clear, and the installation looks professional. Only one issue, the cables for the safety disconnect are actually a bit long after the swap. So it too some strong hands (not mine) to actually get them routed. We added some tubing to cover the sharp edge on the cover, after deburring first. Battery condition is dramatically more stable. No chance lately to get the batteries fully charged or to even get 30mph. Just a few 1 and 2mile trips. MPG is inching up, but it needs a longer drive, with a down hill section.

HIghly recommended
These batteries fit into the battery frame better than the originals did. They have better mounting, better cable management, and they're simpler to install. If you're debating about swapping out 4-5 cells or getting new ones, replacing all of them via this route is actually a lot easier than doing it piecemeal, and the result is better.

Battery system working well. I would recommend some additions to the instructional manual. Add arrows to #7 wire attachments as was done for #8 and consider another arrangement for extra length of disconnect cables.

Signs your hybrid battery is failing.

A hybrid pack rarely dies all at once. One weak module drags the rest down, and the car tells you in a few predictable ways.

  1. 01A warning light and a battery code The red triangle appears with code P0A80, "replace hybrid battery pack".
  2. 02The charge gauge jumps aroundIt swings from full to nearly empty in minutes instead of moving slowly.
  3. 03The engine never restsIt runs at stop lights and low speed, and fuel economy drops by 5 to 10 mpg or more.
  4. 04Weak or jerky accelerationThe electric assist fades on hills and highway merges, or the car shudders when the engine kicks in.

New, rebuilt or used. Know what you are buying.

Many "replacement" hybrid batteries are reconditioned packs or modules pulled from salvage cars. Ours are not.

Full product details

Description

A complete, brand-new hybrid battery for your Toyota Prius (2004 to 2009). Every cell is new NiMH with zero miles. Not refurbished, not rebuilt, and not pulled from a wrecked car.

Built stronger than the original

  • 14 new cylindrical NiMH modules (14.4 V each, 201.6 V total). Your original pack uses 28 small modules, so there are half as many connections to work loose.
  • Numbered and matched. Modules are tested, matched and numbered before they ship, so they go back in the right order and wear evenly.

When to replace your Toyota Prius battery

  • The red triangle warning is on and the car stores code P0A80 (replace hybrid battery pack)
  • The battery gauge swings quickly between full and empty
  • The engine runs far more than it used to and fuel economy drops

Hybrid batteries usually fail one weak module at a time. Once one goes, the rest are close behind, so replacing the whole pack with new cells is the fix that lasts.

Why new instead of rebuilt or used

  • Brand new, zero miles. Rebuilt packs reuse old modules that are already ageing. Used packs come out of wrecked or high-mileage cars. Ours are new cells, so the whole pack starts its life the day you install it.
  • Keep your car's own electronics. You reuse your original battery case, battery computer, fans and wiring junction, parts you know have not been abused, instead of trusting a pack that came out of a junkyard car.
  • No core charge. Keep or recycle your old modules.

What's in the box

  • Nickel-plated bus bars, temperature clips, bolts and terminal nuts

Installation

Most owners or local shops finish the swap in an afternoon with basic hand tools and insulated gloves. You remove the old modules from the case, fit the new ones in order and refit the pack.

The batteries were easy to install with the mostly clear instructions sent with the batteries. Online support is timely and informed. After installation my car worked without any further issue. Will purchase again if these batteries die after another 150k miles of use.

New Prius Battery Kit Gen. 2

    Posted by parentbrian@gmail.com on Jul 22nd 2019

This is the only alternative to the Toyota dealer for a new battery. If you have the time( 4-6 hours) and the ordinary tools needed, assembly is not a problem. My car has been running like new since I put this in just over a month ago and the state of charge is very steady and fuel efficiency is high. The instruction manual is very good but not perfect, could use a little tweaking. The person at the company always responded quickly to my email questions however. Delivery was quick and I liked that shipping was included in the price. I highly recommend this battery.

The kit was very well made, but the manual was hard to follow. Will need a few hours of time to install. Plan on half a day.
