PRIUS BATTERY KIT (GEN2, 2004-2009)
First time I have disassembled and reassembled a piece of machinery and the assembly was easier than the disassembly. I believe I used the best option on the market. My original battery lasted 15 years and 320,000 miles. I'm hoping this one will outlast the car.

Excellent battery replacement
After having a module go out in my 207 Prius and spending 2 weeks charging and discharging battery modules, with no end in sight of getting all the packs balanced and determining which modules I should replace. I decided to get the "New Prius Battery" and can't be happier. Also gives my wife peace of mind rather than having used cells replacing used cells. The kit and instructions are very easy (if you consider yourself somewhat handy with tools). The instructions are very complete and easy to follow. The parts appear to be of excellent quality and the Prius is up and running with the battery alwasy at full charge, Very satisfied.

New Prius Gen2 (2007) battery kit
It took several days from the time I ordered the battery kit (Monday) until it was fulfilled. I wrote an Email on the third day and was answered fairly quickly. The package was sent the next day. Everything came in the following Monday. I already had the problem battery pack out and on a sturdy table. The previous replacement battery was a re-manufactured Dorman battery that lasted 4 years and almost 2 months. No instructions were included with the package. However, I had already gone online and found a good set of instructions. A few days after I got done, I received the instructions by Email. Between the online instructions that I found elsewhere and my background as a copy machine repair person and car mechanic. I avoided the pitfalls and potential mistakes that could have been disastrous. Before the final reassembly of the inside panels, I cleared all of the remaining codes. I started it up, aimed for the street. I punched it pretty well, when I hit the street OMG, it about put me in the back seat. I took it for a short road trip. The performance is impressive and the computer display indicated an improvement in fuel mileage of 2-3 mpg. Impressed, except for the no instruction issue and slow fulfillment. Now to see how long it lasts. Since it's my wife's car, she is very happy and as all good husbands know. Happy wife, happy life.

New prius battery
The battery was packed very well and shipping was very fast. Installation is not that difficult , but it is time consuming, it took me about 7.5 hours to do the swap. I have been driving the car for a week and see no issues. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because I found the manual a little confusing, for example I had to dissemble the modules so I can attach the heat sensors, so I would suggest attaching the sensors while assembling the modules. All and all I am happy with the product, and I will recommend it.

Signs your hybrid battery is failing.

A hybrid pack rarely dies all at once. One weak module drags the rest down, and the car tells you in a few predictable ways.

  1. 01A warning light and a battery code The red triangle appears with code P0A80, "replace hybrid battery pack".
  2. 02The charge gauge jumps aroundIt swings from full to nearly empty in minutes instead of moving slowly.
  3. 03The engine never restsIt runs at stop lights and low speed, and fuel economy drops by 5 to 10 mpg or more.
  4. 04Weak or jerky accelerationThe electric assist fades on hills and highway merges, or the car shudders when the engine kicks in.

New, rebuilt or used. Know what you are buying.

Many "replacement" hybrid batteries are reconditioned packs or modules pulled from salvage cars. Ours are not.

Full product details

Description

A complete, brand-new hybrid battery for your Toyota Prius (2004 to 2009). Every cell is new NiMH with zero miles. Not refurbished, not rebuilt, and not pulled from a wrecked car.

Built stronger than the original

  • 14 new cylindrical NiMH modules (14.4 V each, 201.6 V total). Your original pack uses 28 small modules, so there are half as many connections to work loose.
  • Numbered and matched. Modules are tested, matched and numbered before they ship, so they go back in the right order and wear evenly.

When to replace your Toyota Prius battery

  • The red triangle warning is on and the car stores code P0A80 (replace hybrid battery pack)
  • The battery gauge swings quickly between full and empty
  • The engine runs far more than it used to and fuel economy drops

Hybrid batteries usually fail one weak module at a time. Once one goes, the rest are close behind, so replacing the whole pack with new cells is the fix that lasts.

Why new instead of rebuilt or used

  • Brand new, zero miles. Rebuilt packs reuse old modules that are already ageing. Used packs come out of wrecked or high-mileage cars. Ours are new cells, so the whole pack starts its life the day you install it.
  • Keep your car's own electronics. You reuse your original battery case, battery computer, fans and wiring junction, parts you know have not been abused, instead of trusting a pack that came out of a junkyard car.
  • No core charge. Keep or recycle your old modules.

What's in the box

  • 14 new cylindrical NiMH modules
  • New high-voltage wiring harness
  • Nickel-plated bus bars, temperature clips, bolts and terminal nuts

Fits

Toyota Prius 2nd generation, 2004 to 2009. Not for the Prius C or plug-in. Not sure? Email info@newpriusbatteries.com with your VIN.

Installation

Most owners or local shops finish the swap in an afternoon with basic hand tools and insulated gloves. You remove the old modules from the case, fit the new ones in order and refit the pack.

Shipping: pick the option that suits you at checkout

  • Free Shipping – duties included, about 30 days on average. Shipping, import duties and fees are all paid. Nothing to pay at the door.
  • Express – $150, about 5 days. Faster delivery. The carrier collects import duties and fees (usually about $100 to $200) when it arrives.

We ship to the 48 contiguous United States. You get a tracking number as soon as your order ships.

Warranty

3 years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first, is included. Want more cover? Choose the extended warranty above to add 2 more years (5 years total) for $800. Covered against block voltage error codes. Installation, labour and shipping are not included. Warranty claims are handled directly by NewPriusBatteries.com.

Warranty Information

3 years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. Optional extended warranty adds 2 more years (5 years total) for $800. Modules are warranted against block voltage error codes. Installation, labour and shipping are not included. Warranty claims are handled by NewPriusBatteries.com.

I rebuilt the pack on my 2008 last year, and just did my 2005 last week ... using these new cells. Some improvements with the latest battery were: better packing/better foam, and the instructions are better, calling-out some differences between 2nd and 3rd Gen that were confusing the first time I did this. One thing that is still a problem is the Safety Disconnect Wiring ... they are still too long and I have not been happy with the instruction suggestions. I wound-up disconnecting the safety switch from the battery frame/casing and using some foam to keep it from flopping around. Overall, a good product and my cars are performing fine.

So I had the red triangle, check engine light and the brake light on all at the same time. The car wouldn't get up past about 30mph. Over all just wouldn't run I got the kit, it went in easy and all the errors went away. Now it works great. I didn't want a used refurbished battery because I was concerned on how long it would last

    Gen 2 Prius battery kit

I bought a 2007 Prius with a dead HV battery. Found Newpriusbatteries.com on Prius Chat, ordered the kit on Sunday and received it the following Friday. Installation was straightforward and total time with removal of old battery was a bit over 4 hours. Kit seems to be well made and everything fit correctly. Instruction manual wasn't perfect, but was detailed enough for me. Installed the new battery in the car and we're back in business! Only time will tell, with the warranty, I'd comfortably recommend this kit.
